The Benefits of Compost
Yard trimmings and food residuals together constitute 26% for the U.S. Municipal solid waste stream. That is a lot of waste to send to landfills when it could become useful and environmentally beneficial compost instead!
Thirty percent by volume should contain compost. Use for preparing beds for color changes by typically adding 1 to 2 inches of D's Dirt and working into top 4 inches of soil.
(e.g., gardens, turf, flower beds, etc.)
Apply 2 to 3 inches above root zone and work into soil.
Typically it is recommended that turf is aerated prior to application. After compost is applied at a rate of 1/4 to 1/2 inch, the surface is raked, the cores created during aeration break up are mixed by the raking action with the compost, and the mixture falls into the holes created during aeration.
Compost can also be used when seeding grasses and works great before sodding.
